Real Self-Care Tips from Reddit

Reddit Made Me Do It: Self-Care Edition

Lately, I’ve been on the hunt for self-care ideas that feel a little more real people, real advice and a little less “drink green juice at sunrise while journaling in Bali.” So naturally, I turned to the sacred scrolls of the internet: Reddit.

And let me tell you — Reddit did not disappoint.

If It Drains You, It’s Not for You

Scrolling through r/selfcare, I stumbled on a post from user ProcerusMacer who dropped a truth bomb:

“If it drains you, it’s not for you. Everything in your life is meant to nourish you, not drain you. If you constantly feel depleted after being around someone or something, it’s not aligned with your soul.”

Like… okay, mic drop. That hit. How many times do we force ourselves into situations, habits, or even relationships that just leave us running on empty? Imagine if we all just let those go? ✨

The “Too Small to Matter” Habits

Then there was another gem from Gundoc7519, who asked:

“What’s one self-care habit you thought was ‘too small to matter’ but ended up changing your life?”

Their answer was making the bed. (Simple, right?) But the comment section BLEW UP with tiny-but-mighty self-care habits:

  • Saying “I love you” to friends and family.
  • Daily affirmations.
  • Decorating your space exactly how you want (zero judgment, full vibes).
  • Moisturizing (honestly… facts).

Sometimes the smallest acts can be just as powerful as a week-long vacation.

What Does Self-Care Really Look Like?

Over on r/randomthoughts, someone asked:

“What does self-care really look like to you?”

The answers were all over the place: journaling, meditation, music therapy, exercise, walking… and I’ve tried most of these myself. Some stuck, some didn’t. (Meditation, I love you, but my brain is louder than you. Sorry, babe.)

What’s Worked for Me (So Far)

  • Guided journaling → actually love it. Writing without structure? Nope. Give me prompts or give me chaos.
  • Music therapy → yessss, instant dopamine boost.
  • Spa nights → I’ll draw a bath, grab a book, vibe like a goddess… but then I never want to leave, and it just gets sad. Still working on that balance.
  • Decorating unapologetically → My mom hates my aesthetic, but guess what? My fairy lights, witchy trinkets, and cozy chaos bring me joy. So they stay.
  • Cozy gaming → This one’s non-negotiable. I play at least once a day: Infinity Nikki, sim games, anything that lets me decorate or escape into a soft little world. Pure serotonin.

As for reading… I used to be obsessed, but somewhere along the way, my dopamine packed its bags and left. So now I’m on the hunt for some new pick-me-ups.

Because here’s the truth: self-care isn’t a Pinterest board. It’s not always pretty or Instagrammable. Sometimes it’s just making your bed, playing cozy games, or putting fairy lights up in a room your mom hates. And honestly? That’s enough.

💜– May you always put yourself first!
